Safety in the workplace

This month at Taylor & Braithwaite we thought we would inform you on safety procedures in the workplace as this is an important aspect to our business.

Safety in the workplace is one of the most important factors businesses need to consider when being in a manual labouring industry due to the many risks that are possible. Here at Taylor & Braithwaite we predominately work within the construction industry which only accounts for about 5% of employees in Britain. Even though this is a small percentage statistics have shown it is responsible for 22% of fatal injuries, including slips, trips and falls.

Due to this and the nature of the industry it is highly important safety features are put in to practice. It is essential employees have had thorough training and are competent enough to work within their environment and know how to safely use any equipment/machines necessary to carry out their jobs. Wearing the correct protective clothing and eye wear is also essential as well as carrying out safety checks. By following a correct safety procedure it should help eliminate any unnecessary accidents and make for a safer workplace.

As there are so many risks involved in this industry the government has also emplaced a set of various regulations that employers need to work with. These regulations are mainly to do with the safety of working equipment including that all machines have been inspected and maintenance checks have been made as well as other requirements for example training to prepare work equipment and if it is ok to operate machinery whilst on medication.

As we are aware of the risks within the industry our team at Taylor and Braithwaite ensure safety procedures are executed in all day-to-day work and with our equipment and machines.
