A £1 million investment is set to boost the local economy and secure employment in the county following a deal between two longstanding family owned businesses in Cumbria.
The deal, between Waitings Ltd, an award winning civil and marine engineering company based in Penrith and construction equipment specialists, Taylor and Braithwaite from Sandford just east of Appleby is the latest in a business relationship that has grown over several years.
Waitings Ltd invest regularly in heavy construction equipment, and whenever possible, prefer to use local suppliers.
Adrian Ash, Waitings Director of Operations explained: “Due to our specialist requirements, investing locally is not always possible, but we always try to develop relationships and give local businesses an opportunity. “
One such opportunity began several years ago when Waitings placed a small order with local equipment specialist Taylor and Braithwaite, which has now resulted in their latest £1 million order.
Taylor and Braithwaite have gone on to mould this initial opportunity to expand what was initially an agricultural supply business into what is now multi-million pound business specialising in heavy construction equipment, offering sales, service and support from some of the world’s leading construction equipment manufacturers, including Hyundai and Rubblemaster which now sees the firm employing over 20 members of staff from the local area.
Ian Burton, sales director at Taylor & Braithwaite said: “As a Cumbrian myself, nothing gives me greater pleasure than knowing we have been instrumental in ensuring continued investment in the local economy.
“The machines Waitings have invested in will be used to support some major infrastructure projects in the county which in turn will secure economic growth and employment opportunities for local people.
Adrian added: “Our relationship with Taylor and Braithwaite is a perfect example of two local companies working well together. Our particular area of expertise demands the very highest standards of support from our suppliers, which I am delighted to say we get from Taylor and Braithwaite.
“They have expanded their product range to match the needs of our business, offer a bespoke service on top of the base manufacturer offering and always respond rapidly to our after sales requirements.”
Waitings Ltd work throughout the UK and all of Ireland on a variety of major contracts, including Carlisle and London City Airports, employing over 100 members of staff, and are always on the lookout for good machine operators to work on both local and national contracts.
